Former Member of Parliament for the North Maafannu constituency, Imthiyaz Fahmy, has asserted that the administration of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is facing repeated political failures because the President continues to mislead the public with untrue claims. Speaking on Sangu TV’s current affairs program “Khabarathah Fahu”, the opposition politician stated that despite utilizing full state power, distributing financial incentives, and offering employment opportunities ahead of elections, the government has failed to gain public support due to a fundamental lack of trust in its leadership.
Imthiyaz strongly criticized President Muizzu’s recent statements claiming that over one thousand development projects have been carried out during the government’s term. He contended that citizens do not accept these claims, arguing that no major new initiatives have actually been launched and that development projects across the country remain stagnant. Referencing remarks made during the President’s Independence Day address, Imthiyaz described claims of executing thousands of projects as direct fabrications that do not reflect the reality on the ground.
According to the former lawmaker, one of the most common complaints from residents in the outer atolls is the complete halt of infrastructure initiatives. He noted that projects initiated during both the previous Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) administration and former President Abdulla Yameen’s government have been left unfinished or suspended. Imthiyaz remarked that while previous administrations—ranging from former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom to subsequent governments—delivered visible development outcomes to the public, the current administration has yet to demonstrate tangible benefits or improve the daily lives of citizens.
Concluding his interview, Imthiyaz emphasized that despite verbal assertions of managing a vast number of projects, the government has failed to produce verifiable evidence of its achievements. He argued that as a consequence of these unfulfilled promises and misleading representations, public confidence in the administration has eroded substantially, leaving the government ill-positioned as the country approaches the 2028 presidential election.
