A strong earthquake struck Egypt early Monday morning, triggering a series of tremors that were felt across southern Israel and the Dead Sea region. Despite the reach of the seismic activity, authorities have reported no casualties or structural damage so far.
According to Egypt’s National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics, the quake occurred approximately 38 kilometers north of Suez City, recording a magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter scale. However, data from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) logged the magnitude at 5.4, with a focal depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles) beneath the surface.
In response to the tremors, the Egyptian Red Crescent activated its emergency response protocol across the affected areas. The organization urged the public to refrain from entering buildings that show visible signs of damage and advised residents to remain vigilant and closely follow instructions issued by official authorities.
Meanwhile, Israel’s Home Front Command confirmed that following the seismic activity centered in the Sinai Peninsula, no secondary warnings for further immediate tremors had been issued.
